Geologist — SE New Mexico, Permian Basin
Location: Houston, TX, USA

The development program is based on resource studies that utilize fit for purpose geologic models and reservoir simulation studies.  Over the past 5 years, these programs have achieved a 135% reserve replacement ratio and attractive project returns.     Position Summary   The Southeast New Mexico Development Group is seeking a Senior/Staff Geologist to work on a multi-disciplinary team working the Permian Basin Northwest Shelf in Southeast New Mexico.  In the East Vacuum field, the only COP operated CO2 flood has been underway since 1985.  The team recently implemented the East Vacuum Transition Zone / Residual Zone (TZ/ROZ) CO2 Pilot Project.  The candidate will be a part of a multi-disciplinary team evaluating the results of the CO2 pilot and planning for an expansion development program in 2014.  The team is also evaluating a second CO2 pilot project in the Maljamar field, with plans to test a CO2 flood of the Main Pay and TZ/ROZ in 2013.  The candidate will be responsible implementing the CO2 pilot project in Maljamar and evaluating the pilot results in East Vacuum and Maljamar.  This will involve updating and maintaining the geomodel and the integration to the reservoir model.  The candidate will also provide support to the development program by integrating geologic, geophysical, petrophysical and engineering data to generate new development drilling opportunities.  Other requirements will include assistance with review of waterflood / CO2 flood conformance and recompletion potential.

This job is open to a broad spectrum of SG levels.  Job expectations and responsibilities will be adjusted as required.     

Responsibilities   The primary responsibility of this position is to provide technical geology expertise to a multi-disciplined asset team.  Activities may include:
·    Conducting resource assessment studies
·    Providing water flood and CO2 flood management and optimization guidance
·    Integrate reservoir, production, geologic, geophysical and petrophysical data to assist in generating new development opportunities
·    Take an active leadership role in quantifying the resource potential, setting strategic direction and delivering business objectives
·    Support Front End Loading processes used to progress development opportunities
·    Working closely with the Permian operations and drilling groups to efficiently implement the capital programs and manage base production  
·    Knowledge sharing across ConocoPhillips EOR projects
·    Mentor junior staff

Qualifications
    Basic/Required: 
·    Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions
·    Masters degree in Geology/Geophysics
·    3+ years experience in a geosciences role.

Preferred:
·    Direct experience in waterflood and/or CO2 flood management
·    Permian and/or Carbonate Reservoir experience 
·    Strong sub-surface technical skills with a strong background in stratigraphy and structural geology
·    Prior experience conducting reservoir and resource studies
·    Familiarity with Petrel software
·    Basic log and core analysis experience
·    Experience in oil and gas field development planning
·    Well organized and able to manage many diverse tasks
·    Interact effectively with multiple functional groups within an asset team
